Psycho is a 1960 American and horror film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. It Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh. The , by Joseph Stefano, is on the 1959 novel of the same name by Robert Bloch. The novel was loosely by the crimes of Wisconsin murderer and grave robber Ed Gein, who lived just 40 miles from Bloch. The film the encounter between a secretary, Marion Crane (Leigh), who goes to a secluded motel after stealing money from her employer, and the motel's disturbed owner and manager, Norman Bates (Perkins), and the aftermath of their meeting. The movie is famous for the shower , which is described as one of the most in movie history.

Psycho was criticized for making other filmmakers more willing to show and initially received mixed reviews. However, outstanding box sales led to it getting four Academy Award nominations. Psycho is now considered one of Hitchcock's best films and is highly as a work of cinematic art by international critics. It is often among the greatest films of all time and is famous for bringing in a new of acceptable violence and in films. The public loved the film, with lines stretching outside of theatres as people had to wait for the next .
